Liz Fernandez, LPC
Therapist
Liz is a licensed therapist with 10 years of experience providing therapy to children, adolescents, and adults. Throughout her career she has had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients; including adolescents and adults struggling with substance use disorders, LGBT+ people, neurodivergent people, BIPOC people, non-monogamous people, people healing from abusive relationships and many more. Her approach is rooted in creating a safe and welcoming space where clients feel comfortable as their full authentic self, particularly during their most difficult times. She strongly believes in a trauma-informed, person-centered, and strength-based approach to therapy, and takes an active role in the therapeutic relationship. This approach acknowledges the impact of trauma on mental health, focuses on building upon individuals' existing strengths and abilities to foster resiliency, and in taking an active role cultivates trust and mutual respect that can support the client in making difficult, healthy change.
Liz incorporates multiple therapeutic modalities into her practice to provide clients with evidence-based techniques that promote emotional regulation and coping skills. She has experience with DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and is beginning the process of becoming certified in Internal Family Systems (IFS). Liz firmly believes that clients are the experts of their own lives and that therapy is most effective when the client is empowered and supported to make the changes they want to see in themselves and their life.
Liz is currently a licensed therapist in Virginia, holding LPC licensure.
